Delta & American Express return with World to Table: Home Cooking to bring a taste of Soeul, South Korea to the Los Angeles, California.

Delta & Amex partnered with award-winning Resy Chef Kwang Uh and Mina Park of Baroo in LA for an unforgettable dining experience inspired by their family ties to the culinary excellence of Seoul. We immersed guests in an authentic Hanok-style venue with rich textures and Japandi-style so they could feel like they’ve traveled to chef’s family home for a personal, intimate, home-cooked dinner.
The design transported guests to Korea through a harmonious blend of architecture and breathtaking scenic views of California. Using natural materials and minimalism we created a serene landscape to highlight the culinary creations of our chef. Our space drew inspiration from Korean Hanoks which are typically built with wood, earth, and paper, emphasizing a connection with nature to create a feeling of escape from the hustle of LA and welcome guests into a warm family home.
ROLE
Design Director
Responsible for the design vision, lead a team of graphic designers, 3D designers and technical designers, created mood boards, layout and flow, sourcing furniture, worked closely and collaborated with catering team and finally working closely with vendors to review and approve fabrication drawings.

MYUNGRI READINGS
Saju Myungri is a traditional form of fortune-telling in Korea that means a lot to Baroo and shows up on special occasions at their restaurant in LA.

CALLIGRAPHY
The cards featured the five elements of Myungri, pre-designed and ready to customize with the attendees’ chosen word or name. The cards were framed as a keepsake after the event.

DADO TEA CEREMONY
The Korean tea ceremony, known as Darye, is a traditional practice that emphasizes mindfulness, respect, and harmony.

GONGGI PLAY
Gonggi is a childhood staple in Korea, it’s a classic game with beautiful pieces, that’s played much like jacks here in America.

KIMCHI TASTING
In Korea, every family has their own take of ingredients and preparation for kimchi, and we’ll bring Baroo’s personal recipe to life.

MUSIC & DANCE
Throughout the dinner we’ll have dancers performing traditional Korean drum and fan dances as well as a Gayageum musician (similar to a harp) playing traditional ambient music.
BEFORE & AFTERS
We chose a venue based on its similarities and achitectual properties of a Korean Hanok. However, the space was pretty raw and needed a lot of warmth and personal home touches. We used complimentary wood tones and wrapped exsiting structures and furniture to make it feel like its been that way for generations.
